I have been working with individuals and couples in the New York area for
over fifteen years. People tell me that in the midst
of the busy week our sessions are a peaceful, nurturing place to get in touch with their best self and find a new balance
in life. I have helped many individuals and couples heal from pain, gain confidence, and enjoy their relationships.
When you come for your first session, I'll create a safe, supportive environment for you to talk
about your concerns. I am active, drawing on many different aspects of my training and experience to understand you and meet
your unique needs. With couples I use current research to help you learn to manage conflict and create a healthy, fulfilling
relationship. With individuals I draw on my creativity and skills to help you discover your strengths and move forward.
My approach is supportive and respectful. If you are dealing with difficult emotions
such as anger, grief, or fear, I am comfortable with these and will work with you to create a safe place for you to experience,
understand, and cope with them.
A New York State licensed psychoanalyst, I am a member of the National Association for the
Advancement of Psychoanalysis and the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC). My articles on family life and emotional and spiritual growth have appeared in many national magazines over
the past twenty-five years, including Parents, Working Mother, McCall's, and Family Circle,
and I have written numerous books on parenting and family life. I am a columnist for the award-winning website Beliefnet.com. Click here to find my columns archived.
At Brown University I received my A.B. with honors, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and
earned my M.A. After studying at the Maryknoll School of Theology, I completed psychoanalytic training at the Westchester Institute, chartered by the New York State Board of Regents, and am now a member of the faculty
and a supervising analyst. I am a moderator of the pastoral-counseling list on the Internet.
I consider it a privilege to help the people who come to me. Sometimes the hardest thing
about therapy is making that first contact by phone or email, but when you do, you are taking the first step toward the life
that you want. There is no charge for the initial phone consultation.
